Project Officer - Energy EfficiencyECOS - European Environmental Citizens' Organisation for StandardisationBrussels, BelgiumECOS is a non-profit organisation which promotes and defends the environmental interests in standardisation and European product policies. ECOS aims to combat climate change, foster energy efficiency, promote a circular economy, and protect environmental health. ECOS represents 42 member organisations, including the EEB, FoEE, T&E and WWF-EPO.
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified candidate to join our team working on energy and resource efficiency of products.
Your main tasks will be to:
  • Coordinate input into the regulatory and standardisation processes related to the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives;
  • Analyse documents of technical nature and prepare comments and policy positions in layman terms;
  • Contribute to the implementation of various Horizon 2020 projects;
  • Work in close collaboration with external technical experts;
  • Engage and collaborate with ECOS’ members and other environmental NGOs;
  • Assist with the preparation of funding applications and reports, and undertake other administrative work;
  • Develop regular updates, briefings, positions and publications for ECOS target audiences.
The main skills and competences we are looking for include:
  • University degree in engineering or science (essential);
  • Two years’ relevant working experience (e.g. energy efficiency, environmental policies, project management);
  • Excellent time and project management skills;
  • Experience in EU-funded projects an asset;
  • Knowledge of EU policy-making processes an advantage;
  • Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical information into digestible information;
  • Outstanding communication skills;
  • Very good command of English, other EU languages an asset;
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new issues, proactivity and self-motivation;
  • Ability to work both independently and in cooperation with others in an international environment;
  • Experience with environmental NGOs and/or strong commitment to the values and mission.

Art Rosenfeld, a pioneer in energy efficiency

Art Rosenfeld, a particle physicist who decided one evening four decades ago to turn off unused lights in his Berkeley Lab office building,  went on to create the field of energy efficiency, inspire an entire generation of energy researchers, and conduct the rigorous engineering analyses that would lead to breakthroughs in low-energy lighting, windows, refrigerators, buildings, and many other areas, while convincing utilities and policymakers that new power plants—and their accompanying greenhouse gas emissions—were not necessary.

The term “Rosenfeld effect” was coined to explain why California’s per capita electricity usage has remained flat since the mid-1970s while U.S. usage has climbed steadily and is now 50 percent higher than it was 40 years ago.

​Art has left us Friday at his home in Berkeley, California. He was 90.

Presentato oggi a Parigi lo studio realizzato dal gruppo di esperti dell'Associazione NegaWatt. Spazio Reully affollato da 700 persone, un pomeriggio di analisi e dibattito sugli aspetti tecnici dello scenario e sulle implicazioni sociali. Sufficienza (utilizzare energia solo ove questa fornisce servizi significativi, scegliere modalità a bassa energia) ed efficienza (ridurre la quantità di energia richiesta a parità di risultato) possono dimezzare la domanda di energia finale
